Local postal union to rally in downtown Medford next week

MEDFORD, Ore. – Next week, the Southern Oregon Local American Postal Workers Union will hold a rally in hopes of reversing a decision they believe could affect the upcoming November election.

The Southern Oregon Local American Postal Workers Union is organizing a rally in downtown. Medford next week to protest recent postal service changes that they believe could negatively. Impact mail delivery and the upcoming November elections. For instance, the union is advocating for the reinstatement of postmarking machines. Above all, increased transportation between post offices and transfer centers, and a return to previous mail processing procedures.

These changes are part of a broader national concern, with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). Planning local rallies on March 23 to oppose the dismantling of the Postal Service. The Medford rally aims to raise public awareness about the potential consequences of. These changes on timely mail delivery and to garner support for preserving essential postal services.

Earlier this year, the United States Postal Service consolidated its mail sorting operations in southern Oregon with those in Portland to reduce costs. However, this consolidation included shutting down Medford’s postmarking machine.

Currently, mail from southern Oregon is sent to Portland for postmarking.

The union is concerned that reducing the number of postmarking locations will slow down mail delivery.  In other words, they are particularly worried about mail-in ballots arriving in time for the November election without a local postmarking machine.

The Liteblue Login USPS has stated that this change will not affect mail services. Therefore, the union’s rally is set for August 3 at 10 a.m. in downtown Medford at Vogel Plaza.
